HealthSpan Internal Medicine
Description
HealthspanSF is a San Francisco-based Medicine 3.0 concierge practice led by Dr. Patrick Sanger, MD, PhD — a physician-scientist whose training spans Yale, the University of Washington, and UCSF, and whose concurrent PhD in biomedical informatics places him at the rare intersection of clinical excellence and data science. Rooted in the conviction that most serious disease is preventable — and that intervention must begin long before symptoms appear — HealthspanSF deploys advanced diagnostics, a custom 250+ data point tracking platform, and individualized lifestyle and pharmaceutical strategies to help patients maximize both the length and quality of their lives. The practice operates as part of the WholeFamilyMD Collective in San Francisco, offering in-person concierge care and telemedicine access for patients in California and New York.
About the Physician
Dr. Patrick Sanger, MD, PhD, brings a rare combination of physician training and data science expertise to the practice of longevity medicine. He began as an architecture major at Yale before earning his MD and a concurrent PhD in biomedical informatics at the University of Washington, where he also completed an NIH fellowship in translational science focused on leveraging machine learning to predict clinical outcomes. He holds board certification in Clinical Informatics — one of very few practicing clinicians to carry this distinction. Dr. Sanger completed his primary care internal medicine residency at UCSF and subsequently practiced at Palo Alto Medical Foundation before founding HealthspanSF. His clinical interests span lipidology, preventive cardiology, menopausal health, fitness and body composition, sleep science, geroprotective therapeutics, and evidence-informed supplement use. He actively integrates generative AI into his clinical workflows, synthesizing complex multimodal data more precisely and rigorously for every patient he serves.
Services Offered
- Medicine 3.0 Primary Care — Concierge internal medicine combining rigorous evidence-based Medicine 2.0 with the individualized, prevention-first philosophy of Medicine 3.0 and integrative approaches — treating each patient as a unique biological system rather than a disease category.
- Healthspan Optimization Program — A structured 6-8 visit annual program (90-minute initial, 30-60 minute follow-ups) working through the core domains of healthspan — cardiovascular, metabolic, cognitive, fitness, and sleep — with measurable benchmarks and continuous data tracking via a custom platform.
- Lipidology & Preventive Cardiology — Advanced lipoprotein analysis, Cleerly AI-powered coronary CT angiography for plaque burden assessment, and individualized cardiovascular risk reduction — going far beyond standard lipid panels to build a complete picture of arterial health and disease risk.
- Metabolic Health & Body Composition — Continuous glucose monitoring, DEXA-based body composition analysis, metabolic rate assessment, and precision interventions for insulin resistance — including GLP-1 therapy (semaglutide, tirzepatide) where clinically appropriate.
- Fitness & Longevity Performance — VO2 max and strength testing, exercise programming grounded in the latest fitness science, and a focus on cardiorespiratory fitness and muscle mass as two of the strongest evidence-based predictors of longevity.
- Sleep Optimization — Lab-quality at-home EEG sleep studies, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring patches, and personalized sleep protocols targeting sleep architecture, apnea, and nervous system recovery for optimal restoration and cognitive performance.
- Geroprotective & Longevity Therapeutics — Evidence-informed use of medications with geroprotective potential (including rapamycin where appropriate), carefully curated supplements, and cutting-edge longevity interventions grounded in rigorous scientific review and deep mechanistic understanding.
- Clinical Informatics & AI-Enhanced Care — Dr. Sanger's PhD in biomedical informatics and active integration of AI into clinical workflows gives patients a physician who can synthesize complex multimodal data faster and more precisely than conventional medicine allows.
- Genomic & Advanced Diagnostics — Whole genome sequencing, Galleri multi-cancer early detection, coronary CT angiography, Prenuvo full-body MRI, and a custom 250+ data point tracking platform integrating labs, imaging, wearables, and fitness metrics into unified longitudinal dashboards.
- Menopausal Health — Individualized hormonal and lifestyle management for women navigating perimenopause and menopause, integrating cardiovascular, metabolic, cognitive, and bone health considerations into a unified, evidence-informed care plan.
